Background: GERMIN is a non-governmental organization whose core principles and
ideals are based on the belief that the Albanian Diaspora must play an extensive and
proactive role in the positive development of all countries in the Balkans where Albanians
live.
Germin seeks an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual with a social science
background (or other if relevant), a passion for research, and a strong drive to develop
quantitative and qualitative research skills to work as a Research Assistant on a variety of
projects aimed at engaging the Kosovar Diaspora.
Ideal candidates will have:

know when to ask for support from your colleagues.
Role you would play
Working with a dedicated team, the Research Assistant will support projects in conducting
research activities. You will work with colleagues and project partners to generate and
analyze various data, draft memos or written deliverables, and develop insights from the
work;
Specific activities may include some or all of the following:
- Data analysis – supporting data entry and data cleaning;
- Qualitative research activities – supporting colleagues and leading interviews, case
reviews, and/or focus groups, coding and analyzing information collected, and
synthesizing key insights
- Information gathering – conducting desk research and literature reviews to produce
concise evidence-based summaries; participating in conversations and meetings
with key stakeholders with expertise on project topics to make sure our work is
well-grounded and focused
- Systems review – observing (virtually or, when possible, in person) and mapping
operational decision-making to help project team identify potential intervention points

such as the development of logic models and theories of change
- Communication – writing memos and drafting sections of reports
- Project coordination – working with external and internal parties to schedule project
activities Specific responsibilities will vary depending on the interests and strengths of the
Research Assistant and the emerging needs of our projects.
Specific requirements
- A university degree in social sciences and familiarity with research methods;
- Academic or professional experience contributing to applied research projects (could
include data analysis, program evaluation, performance measurement, business
process analysis, or other types of public policy assessment) – preferably focused on
migration, diaspora, and economic development;
- Experience conducting qualitative research and using qualitative analysis tools;
- Experience using applicable research tools;
- Strong interpersonal skills – including active listening skills and respect for and
understanding of cultural differences;
- (Desirable) Familiarity with the issue of migration, diaspora, and (local) economic
development;
- Strong writing and communication skills;
- English language proficiency
- Strong organizational and time management skills; and
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint, and comfort using
online applications, including Trello and other coordination tools.
