CONNECT

Connecting Diasporas with the homeland

Germin is a non-governmental organization whose core principles and ideals are based on the belief that the Albanian diaspora must play an extensive and proactive role in the positive development of all countries in the Balkans where Albanians live.

The vision of GERMIN is to lead social innovation that empowers communities abroad and at home to co-create the future of our homeland countries. GERMIN is envisioned as a Diaspora Hub, where entrepreneurs, innovators, donors, and philanthropists and connectors find their place and ways to work together. Most importantly, we see GERMIN as a place where “make a change and innovative things will happen”.

Our Approach

We use  a multidimensional approaches for program delivery and impact

Our aim is to develop programs and initiatives that serve a wider range of the Global Albanian community, promote innovation, and are responsive and able to demonstrate their usefulness to the Global Albanian community.

Germin is run and supported by a group of Diaspora professionals ranging from the field of public policy, finance, information, technology, law, education, security, and defense.

We have a wide network of 150 professionals and part-time collaborators, currently residing in 24 countries including the Balkans, Western Europe, and North America.  Germin also has a network of 250 partner organizations in the Diaspora, including Europe, the United States, Canada, Asia, and Australia.

Testimonials

Increasingly countries are coming to realize that their Diasporas are no longer ‘lost actors’ but ‘national assets.’

Potential of Diasporas is to be able to answer the following questions – who are they, where are they and what are they doing?  To develop this ‘Diaspora Capital’ organisations need to be established who understand this potential and can put in place programmes and projects to develop it. Germin in Kosovo is a really good example of such an organisation who are perfectly placed to turn brain drain into brain gain and brain exchange. Made up of talented and passionate professionals who have researched the potential and identified key Kosovans overseas they have put in place the building blocks and structures to convert sentiment and goodwill into practical projects which will benefit their homeland. Germin have identified global best practice in Diaspora engagement and  can become one of the leaders in this field.
