June 20 is the day dedicated to all those who forcibly leave their homeland. World Refugees Day serves to highlight the difficulties that refugees face all around the world. World Refugee Day was held globally for the first time on June 20, 2001, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees.

This year’s theme of World Refugee Day is “Çdokush, Cilido, Kudo. Çdokush ka të drejtë të kërkoj siguri”. It focuses on everyone’s right to safety, implying that refugees are welcome and should be treated with dignity regardless of their country of birth, race, origin, or religion.

According to the UNHCR, 65.3 million people have been forced to leave their homeland. Every day, 42,500 people leave their homes searching for a safer place.

Shqiptarët e Kosovës, këtë ditë e ndjejnë afër, pasi të qenit refugjatë e kanë ndier në lëkurën e tyre. Viti 1999 i gjeti 1 milion shqiptarë larg shtëpive të tyre.

Sot kujtojmë të gjithë personat që janë të detyruar të largohen nga vendlindja dhe bashkëndjejmë me dhimbjen e tyre.
